Important Assumptions

1

We don’t simply fall asleep at bedtime, and wake up in the morning; we wake up and fall back to sleep, all night long.

2

The first third of the night is mostly deep sleep with disruptive awakenings less likely to occur. The last two thirds of the night is mostly light sleep and dreaming when disruptive awakenings are more likely to occur.

3

What is present for “falling asleep” must be available all night long in order to achieve “sleeping through the night.”
